A single story master suite added to a well-maintained 1950's ranch. The new design transformed the house from an "L" to a "U" plan. The geometric rigidity of the resulting courtyard is mitigated by careful placement of doors and windows giving onto the quadrangle. These are deliberately positioned to avoid strict symmetry or alignment with pre-existing architectural features.
